The new ice spectacular from Feld Entertainment celebrates 90 years of Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The first half is a real party, with Mickey showing off his breakdancing, and joining in a hoe-down with Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the gang from Toy Story (1995).
The highlights are the lengthy, spectacular excerpts from Frozen (2013), Moana (2016) and Finding Dory (2016). ”Let It Go” plays out brilliantly on ice, and Moana’s voyage across the ocean on her boat is thrilling. We also get treated to a parade of Disney princesses, to Tina Parol’s anthemic “Live Your Story”, encouraging fans to be movers and shakers in the world today.
But it’s fun for Mickey to take his own trip down memory lane, too. A magic “Mouse Pad” tablet operated by selected members of the audience launches nostalgic video clips of the clubhouse gang, and Walt himself. Throughout, the show’s focus on integrated technology works like real magic, including Merida from Brave (2012) firing an arrow directly into a bullseye inside the TV screen.
The party atmosphere is infectious, with fans everywhere screaming, shouting and singing along with absolute delight. The cast are first-rate, and there are plenty of wow moments, especially for Ariel from The Little Mermaid (1989), who goes spectacularly arial. However, in general, the choreography is a little tamer than usual. But still a well-deserved super celebration for Mickey.
