Wet and sexy circus ensemble show SOAP has been touring the world since it was created in 2007, and has even featured on the Royal Variety Show. With jaw-dropping acts and a big splash factor, SOAP offers a really special circus experience.
Featuring performers from Cirque Du Soleil, a high standard is to be expected. But what’s really special about SOAP is the individuality of the acts. You’ve seen plate spinning; what about towel spinning? What about towel spinning in a bath tub, on all four limbs, with a guitar (Vanessa Alvarez)? You’ve seen bounce-juggling; what about bounce-juggling while performing a strip-tease (Adem Endris Yemam)? You’ve seen solo trapeze; what about sexy solo trapeze in floods of stage rain (Mortiz Haase)?
Beautifully choreographed dance pieces take us away from traditional circus feats and add emotional heft to the show, including a trio where Daniel Leo Stern is torn between two lovers, Lena Ries and Vanessa Alvarez, each in her own bathtub. Then in the next moment, we’re watching a towel-tease ballet parody (Anton Belyakov; Adem Endris Yemam; Daniel Leo Stern), or screaming as be-goggled Marie-Andrée Lemaire squirts the audience with a water cannon.
Talented singer and violinist Jennifer Lindshield brings some interesting live elements to the music. Her operatic performance of “Splish splash, I was taking a bath” is hilarious, but the joke wears thin upon repetition throughout the show. Other filler turns up in some lukewarm, Stomp-lite ensemble choreography with mops and buckets. Overall though, a unique and wonderful circus show that’s guaranteed to get you wet.
